Sweeps or "Street Sweeping" is a localized law enforcement tactic utilized in areas operating under criminalization or the Nordic Model. Police indiscriminately arrest, detain, or harass anyone they visually profile as engaging in Street-Based Sex Work within a specific radius. Sweeps are heavily condemned by Sex Worker Advocacy Group organizers because they simply displace marginalized workers into darker, more dangerous, and isolated industrial areas, drastically increasing their risk of violent assault.
